Mermaids on Thompson

On a quaint little street in Fishtown, live these beauties, swaying back and forth in the breeze as though they were on the high seas. Well at least that’s how I see it!

This was one of my most ambitious projects to date, a two sided hanging mermaid sign with a number plate and a stained glass header. The sign itself is a sturdy .75” thick, and cut from a single piece of wood. It’s hinged half way , allowing the tails to sway back and forth in the wind, giving the mermaids motion. I envisioned them swimming at the rear of a Spanish Galleon, which was the inspiration for the shape of the stained glass.

These mermaids are lucky to live above these beautiful window boxes!

As the sun shifts, the stained glass changes color ever so slightly.
